Google make their own 10 Gigabit Switches
November 22, 2007 – 9:50 amIt looks like Google aren’t satisified with buying their network infrastructure, so instead they’ve decided to put their engineers on the case and build their own switches themselves.
Google have been buying up the components required to build 10 Gigabit switches. I believe this has been well and truly confirmed by now.
Here are the inside specs on Google’s 10 Gigabit Switch
- Broadcom 20-port 10GE switch silicon (BCM56800) & SFP+ based interconnect.
- Google is building this to their exact needs, using non-standard solutions.
- Google may be using about 5,000 ports per month
Cisco cannot be happy about this.
